Christmas Problem Solving

Greetings,

I have found this great problem solving site for any students and parents who are interested in a challenge. Your goal is to try and light up all the lights on the Christmas tree. It has left me frustrated. Good luck.

Hat Day

Greetings,

As can be seen in the picture above, there was quite the assortment of hats in 2F last Friday as students participated in the "Hat Day" put on by our Student Parliament.

The GNPS can drive is off to a great start as well. If students reach the goal of collecting 1,600 cans, Mr. Edmondson & Mrs. Major have agreed to allow themselves to be taped to the gym wall. When I left the school today we were already at 1,538 cans, so needless to say I think our administration can expect to be taped up.

Thanks again for your support.

Rainbow Fireworks

Greetings,

We have been having great fun conducting science experiments during our "Solids & Liquids" unit. This is our first attempt at video taping so some of the voices are not clear. This experiment is called Rainbow Fireworks and it is one of our favourites so far.

Enjoy!

Raz Kids at School

Greetings,

2F students were able to use "Raz Kids" at school with the laptops. Everyone was excited to share their "Raz Rocket Room" purchases with each other. Students that have not accessed the program at home as of yet were able to check it out at school and those familiar with the program were very helpful assistants.

Thanks for your continued support.

Curious George Visits 2F

Greetings,

2F students were surprised to open the door and find Curioug George standing with Mrs. Woodruff. Curious George was visiting the students attending the GNPS Scholastic Book Fair and stopped by our classroom to say hello.

Thanks so much for your support of the Book Fair . Our school library will be able to purchase over $2000 in new books. 2F students are excited to see what Mrs. Woodruff purchases for our library.

Raz Kids

Greetings,

I am very excited to share an online, interactive reading program with you called Raz Kids. I would like to extend a special thanks to the GNPS Parent Council as I was able to use their generous donation for each classroom to purchase additional literacy resources towards the cost of this subscription:}

Your child has a log in page taped inside their agenda with their personal information and log in instructions. With this program students have an opportunity to listen to a story read to them. Then they should attempt to read the story independently. When finished there is a quiz they can try. There is also an additional incentive program called the Raz Rocket Room where students can use accumulated points from reading to decorate their virtual rooms.

Students are welcome to use this program in conjunction with our Take Home Reading program and can record these titles in their duotangs as well. Please let me know if you should have any problems with this program so that I may report them promptly to the website administrator.

It is my hope that this program will further promote your child's interest and enthusiasm in reading.

Math Facts

Greetings,
We have been busy working on a variety of strategies to assist us in committing our number facts to 20 to memory. Knowing your doubles facts is one of these strategies.
ICT games has some fun games to practise these facts. Click on the link below.

ICT Games

One of my favourite number sense games is called Give the Dog A Bone. This link is also provided. I told students to challenge their parents and see if they can find the numbers faster than their parents can......

Have fun!

Yellow Hat Club

Greetings,

You've heard about the "Red Hat Society." Well take a peek at the new "Yellow Hat Club!" Thanks to the knitting talents and generosity of Mrs. Hazel Casey from Leamington, each 2F student now has a warm and cozy yellow hat to keep them extra warm this winter. We will most certainly be polishing up our letter writing skills when we send her a great big thanks.

Operation Christmas Child

Greetings,

Just a gentle reminder about the "Operation Christmas Child" program 2F students are participating in. Please remember that participation in this project is voluntary. We have two shoeboxes to fill; one for an eight year old boy and one for an eight year old girl. Suggestions for items include small school supplies, small toys, hygiene items such as combs, toothbrushes, washclothes, hair accessories, and toy jewellery. Due to regulations items such as toothpaste, liquids like shampoo and glue, food items, breakable items & used items should not be included.

Items need to be collected by Thursday, November 12th.

Thanks for considering this worthwhile project and together, we hope to send the holiday spirit of Canadian school children to other children around the world.

I Know An Old Lady.......

Dear Families,

One of our areas of focus during our literacy block has been reviewing the necessary steps involved in an oral retelling of a piece of literature. Initially we used pattern stories to assist us in this process and one of our favourites was using the book "There was an Old Lady..." Please take the time to listen to your child share their retelling with you, complete with a visual organizer for the sequence.

Thanks for your continued support
