Happy Pink Shirt, Leap Year Day!

Greetings,

Today we had another busy day in 1F. We met a girl in grade six, Raquelle, who turned three years old today. Ask your child to explain why????????

We proudly wore our pink shirts today and saw a skit performed by our grade 7 and 8 students about how "Pink Shirt Day" originated. We discussed different ways that we can become "Upstanders," and stand up to bullying.

Thanks again to Harley's mom for her generous donation of the pink shirts. I felt like a proud, pink mother duck with her little pink ducklings waddling behind as we walked into the assembly today. I snapped a photo from the back of the gym during the assembly and was most impressed by the sea of pink that I saw.

Gosfield North Public School is a great place to be!

GNPS Bonhomme Carnival

Greetings,

Last Friday we celebrated "Bonhomme Carnival" at GNPS. Our two French teachers, Madame Harrison and Madame Morin worked very hard and put in countless hours organizing a flawless day with Carnival themed centres. Our favourites in 1F were the Limbo en Francais, and the sled races down the hallway.

It was so much fun and we are very appreciative of all of their hard work and most of all for including us in the festivities.

Pink Shirt Day Wednesday February 29th

Greetings,

Wednesday, February 29th is Pink Shirt Day, Canada's National Day to show your commitment to a Bully-Free Life.
For many, the Pink Shirt has become a symbol of the UPSTANDER - the advocate, friend, ally. The person who will make a difference in the life of others by standing up and playing a role in creating safe, equitable spaces for all students.
All GNPS students are encouraged to wear pink this Wednesday. Thanks to the very generous donation of Harley's mom, each 1F student will be given a pink t-shirt, designed and created by Harley, her sister Olivia and their mom.
We will wear our shirts proudly on Wednesday. Stay tuned for a future post with pics.

Needs Versus Wants

Greetings,

In our social studies unit on communities we have been discussing the difference between things that we need and things that we want. Next we will be looking at different places in the community that provide people with basic needs such as food, shelter and clothing and places that allow us to purchase things we want like toys and ice cream.

Enjoy our needs and wants video below.

Valentine's Day

Greetings,

Happy Valentine's Day! 1F students came to school, dressed in red and ready for another party on day 101. We participated in a fun activity after discussing the works of Michelangelo and how it took him over four years to paint pictures of Bible stories on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. We taped a heart picture to the bottom of our desks and coloured as we lay on our coats on the floor.

Students did a great job passing out their valentines and enjoyed all of the wonderful treats sent in. It was another fun-filled busy day in 1F.

A Safety Manager

Greetings,

One day while I attended a workshop students were treated to a visit from Gavin's mom. Students enjoyed learning about equipment that keeps people safe and had an opportunity to try on different pieces of equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, a hard helmet and a safety harness.

Thanks again to all of our wonderful parent volunteers who came in to discuss their careers with us.
