Canadian Coins
Greetings,
This week we are going to be having some fun with coins during our Numeracy Block. In grade one students are required to name the coins and know their corresponding values. They must also be able to represent money amounts to 20 cents. We have been tracking the number of days we have been at school using coins, daily, during Marvelous Math Minutes so I am hopeful that students find these concepts easy to grasp. Also, students that are proficient rote counting by fives and tens will find this concept less of a challenge.

Our First Book Talks
Greetings,
Each student was invited to bring in a favourite book from home and share a part of the book with us. Some friends read their stories, some did a retelling based on what they remembered and others did a picture walk for us. Students were presented with a variety of literature and this quickly became a highlight of our literacy block as we anticipated the next book to come in.
Thanks for your continued support of our program.

Online Advent Calendar
Greetings,
This is a link to an online advent calendar that is lots of fun.
http://ngfl.northumberland.gov.uk/christmas/advent07/adventcalendar2007.html
Each day students get to hear about things that happen in Santa's home during the 24 days before Christmas. If you click on the text the story will be read to you. There is also a little mouse hiding in each picture. If you click on the ears of the mouse he will pop out.
Let the countdown begin!
