Yellow Hat Club

Greetings,

You've heard about the "Red Hat Society." Well take a peek at the new "Yellow Hat Club!" Thanks to the knitting talents and generosity of Mrs. Hazel Casey from Leamington, each 2F student now has a warm and cozy yellow hat to keep them extra warm this winter. We will most certainly be polishing up our letter writing skills when we send her a great big thanks.

Operation Christmas Child

Greetings,

Just a gentle reminder about the "Operation Christmas Child" program 2F students are participating in. Please remember that participation in this project is voluntary. We have two shoeboxes to fill; one for an eight year old boy and one for an eight year old girl. Suggestions for items include small school supplies, small toys, hygiene items such as combs, toothbrushes, washclothes, hair accessories, and toy jewellery. Due to regulations items such as toothpaste, liquids like shampoo and glue, food items, breakable items & used items should not be included.

Items need to be collected by Thursday, November 12th.

Thanks for considering this worthwhile project and together, we hope to send the holiday spirit of Canadian school children to other children around the world.

I Know An Old Lady.......

Dear Families,

One of our areas of focus during our literacy block has been reviewing the necessary steps involved in an oral retelling of a piece of literature. Initially we used pattern stories to assist us in this process and one of our favourites was using the book "There was an Old Lady..." Please take the time to listen to your child share their retelling with you, complete with a visual organizer for the sequence.

Thanks for your continued support

The excitement builds....

Dear Families,
The anticipation is quickly building as children count the nights until Hallowe'en. Just a reminder of black & orange day on Friday. Students are welcome to bring in treats to share with classmates. Please do not feel obligated to do so as students get soooo much the night of.
We certainly miss all of our friends who are home ill and wish everyone a speedy recovery. We've been working with ten frames in math. Here is a website everyone can practice at home.

Parents, What was one of your favourite Hallowe'en costumes? by lisefell

Hallowe'en is a very popular canadian tradition that many canadian families participate in every year. On Friday, October 30th, Gosfield North students are invited to dress in the festive colours of black and orange.
In 2F, we will be participating in theme related Hallowe'en activities during the last two periods on Friday. We would love to hear what one of your favourite costumes was when you were younger. Please follow the link below and post a note on Wall Wisher.
Thanks for your continued support.

Wordle

Greetings,
This is a fantastic website that allows users to type in a variety of words and then take those words and make "word clouds." I have made one for you to see on the left with names of 2F students. I am also going to start posting our new "Words of the Week" in a wordle in the event students missed recording them in their agendas because of an illness etc. There are a variety of uses for this website in the classroom. This week we will be using it during word study. I will make a "wordle" with the proper spellings of our words and many misspellings. Students will then have to highlight on our SMART board the correct spellings.

Here is the link if you would like to experiment at home.

New Hallowe'en Game

Greetings,
In an effort to keep our blog informative and fun I found a neat Halloween gadget that encourages some problem solving. Scroll to the bottom of our blog and give it a try. Also check out our new virtual pet monkey. I wonder what 2F students will want to name him or her???
