100th Day of School

Greetings,

Today we celebrated the 100th day of school. Students wore their pajamas to school and our goal to read 100 books was easily reached. We made necklaces with 100 fruit loops and 100 day hats. We were able to use a loonie today to represent the number of days we have been at school and finally traded all of our tens on the place value chart in for a one hundred block. It was an exciting day. More pics to come.....

Groundhog's Day

Greetings,

This morning we listened patiently to hear what Wiarton Willie's prediction would be. Yesterday we each made our own prediction about what we thought Wiarton Willie would predict. When it was announced that Wiarton Willie did not see his shadow and that spring was on it's way many student shouted in excitement. Since we have been discussing probablity in math it was also a great opportunity to discuss the concept of likely versus not likely. We talked about shadows and how it takes a light to make a shadow. Since we woke to a cloudy day we thought it was likely that Wiarton Willie would not see his shadow.

Hooray for spriing!

A Police Officer

Greetings,

Today we enjoyed a visit from our local OPP Community Liason Officer, Officer Bertoni. He talked to us about his role in the community to keep us safe. We discussed the importance of calling 9-1-1, only in the event of an emergency, and looked at the different tools that he carries with him daily. Students had an opportunity to ask him many questions and were excited to take their new colouring book home.

More Community Presentations

Greetings,

We continue to be amazed by the individual student presentations. The variety of careers being chosen is quite interesting and I am sure by the time we are finished that we could form our own community with these professions. Thanks for your continued support of our monthly show and share topics. The confidence that each student clearly displays now when public speaking, in comparison to the beginning of the year, is great to see.

A Dentist

Greetings,

Today we enjoyed a visit from Alex's mom who is dentist. She shared how important it is to brush your teeth properly and had a model of some teeth to demonstrate. 1F students got to see how teeth are filled when there is a cavity and learned all about the daily routines of a dentist. Each student was given a goodie bag with a new toothbrush, floss, some stickers and the highlight, some sugar free gum. We managed to sneak in a quick chew before we left for home today.
